How Alex shared her love for film with her own Halloween newspaper

"For as long as I can remember, I’ve had an insatiable love for film. And though I’ve learned to appreciate many different movie genres over the years, the genre I’ve come to love the most is undoubtedly horror! Nothing beats the rush of getting the bejeesus scared out of you! And with Halloween upon us — the prime season for horror films — what better way to celebrate than with a Halloween movie night? I decided to commemorate the event with a special Halloween newspaper."

A Halloween movie night is a great way to celebrate

Teasing your movie night in your Halloween newspaper

"I started my Halloween newspaper off by setting out a brief history of horror movies, ranging from the old classics including Hitchcock’s The Birds, Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street and Stanley Kubric’s The Shining; to modern classics such as Daniel Myrick’ The Blair Witch Project, Oren Peli’s Paranormal Activity and John R. Leonetti’s Annabelle. With a short summary of each movie flowed by my personal star (or, in this case, pumpkin) rating, these movies were a great teaser for the upcoming movie night that was bound to give everyone some pre-Halloween jitters!"

Personalising your paper with a custom movie recommendation

"In addition to the classics mentioned above, I also added a custom movie recommendation for each friend! Taking their different interests into account, I tried to find a horror movie that they would enjoy. That’s how I recommended Luca Guadagnino’s Suspiria for my ballerina friend, Mary; and George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead for my zombie-loving friend, Ben. My friends absolutely loved the personal touch!"

Inviting your friends to your movie night

"The final page of my Halloween newspaper featured the official movie night invite. Inspired by the retro movie posters of the 70s, I created my own movie night poster inviting everyone to the screening party. I made sure to include the time, location and dress code (the scarier the better). Movie of choice? Michael Dougherty’s Trick ‘r Treat — a Halloween-themed horror movie that bound to get everyone trembling!"

Turning your movie night into a spook-tacular Halloween party

"Of course, you can’t host a Halloween movie night without some ghoulishly delightful treats! That’s why I added a column to my Halloween newspaper listing just a few of the themed snacks that will be served on the night, including peanut butter spider cookies, witch finger breadstick, popcorn pumpkins, and googly monster eye hot cocoa. Halloween-inspired snacks, ghoulish costumes and a scary movie? Halloween doesn’t get much better than this!"

"My Halloween newspaper was a big hit! Though my friends may not fully understand my obsession with horror movies, they absolutely loved receiving such a unique and original party invitation! And it totally got them in the Halloween mood! Safe to say it was fang-tastic!"
